What led to the foundation of VARIOSAX? And why is the orchestra called that way?
History
VARIOSAX was founded as the Albert-Schweitzer-Gymnasium’s school-orchestra in autumn 2004 by music teachers Annette Kutzer and Albert Loritz. It started off as mixed orchestra of clarinets and saxophones but soon developed to the initially envisioned saxophone-orchestra. Over the years, the membership has leveled off at 15 to 22. In each school year there is a small change in the orchestra’s composition.
Why “Vario-“?
- Variable genres
- Variable combinations with other ensembles or soloists (choir, strings, woodwind and brass, percussion etc.)
- Variable in instrumentation: besides playing in the large orchestra, music is also made in small ensembles.
